‘90,000 seats per week to be granted to Kuwait Airways carriers to India’

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 21: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh disclosed Kuwait’s desire to increase the number of seats granted to Kuwait Airways carriers from 12,000 to 90,000 per week, as the current number of seat allocation does not match the number of Indian expatriates living in Kuwait.
The minister said this following her meeting with the honorable Minister of State for External Affairs of India M.J. Akbar and his accompanying delegation who are currently on an official visit in the country. Al-Sabeeh stressed that the current seat allocation of 12,000, which was granted in 2017, do not match the number of Indian expatriates in the country.
She explained that they discussed future cooperation in terms of workers from India as well as a study concerning recruitment of labor through a project of electronic link between the two countries. Work is currently underway to establish this electronic link and deal with any obstacles facing this project, as it will contribute to the recruitment of skilled labors required in the labor market of Kuwait and filter out marginal laborers who do not add any value to the labor market.
Protect
During the meeting with the delegation, Al-Sabeeh affirmed the keenness of the government to protect the rights of expatriate workers through the relevant sectors of Public Authority for Manpower and various other units and to receive complaints from the workers in the labor departments of all governorates. She stressed that the concerned authorities provide ways to protect workers as well as monitor and follow-up labor affairs through field inspections by teams of the authorities with the cooperation of the embassies of the labor-exporting countries.
Al-Sabeeh assured the delegation that the Indian workers, estimated to be about 900,000 in Kuwait, are working under the umbrella of Kuwaiti laws, adding that they have the necessary protection to deal with any problems they might face when they occur. She expressed her readiness to cooperate for ensuring any obstacles facing Indian expatriates or any other expatriates are overcome.
In another development, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Development Hind Al-Sabeeh said the total number of wedding halls reached 64-34 of which are managed by the ministry and 30 by donors. The minister made the announcement after the inauguration of two social development centers in Sabah Al-Ahmad City of Tuesday.
Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Undersecretary Saad Al-Kharraz, Assistant Undersecretary of for Economic Development Hassan Kazem and Assistant Undersecretary for Planning Musalam Al-Sebai’e accompanied the minister in the event. Al-Sabeeh added the number of social development centers in different governorates totaled 20, affirming the three more centers will open soon in Jaber Al-Ahmad and Sulaibikhat
