9 killed and 16 injured as vehicle plunges into ravine in N.Afghanistan

KABUL, Nov 26, (Xinhua): At least nine people were killed and 16 others injured when their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep ravine in northern Afghanistan's Faryab province, a local official said late Tuesday.

The accident occurred in Pashtun Kot district on Tuesday afternoon after the vehicle lost control on a steep path, resulting in the immediate deaths of nine commuters, including women and children, and injuries to 16 others, said Mawlawi Shamsuddin Mohammadi, provincial director of the information and culture department.

The victims had been attending a wedding ceremony and were on their way home when the incident occurred, according to the official. Poor road conditions were identified as the primary cause of the mishap. Authorities urged drivers to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
