Making efforts to convince Kuwaitis to take up jobs: PAM

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 9: Statistics issued by the government show about 59% of young Kuwaitis in 2017 refused to work in the private sector and the number jumped to 80% last year, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The statistics was a response to a parliamentary query by MP Abdullah Al-Kandari. The statistics showed the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) in 2017 offered 6,861 job opportunities for young Kuwaiti graduates in the private sector and 4,067 rejected them, with only 2,794 accepting the offer.

The statistics also showed the number of job opportunities offered to young people in 2018 was 5,778, and 4,618 turned down the offer which is calculated at 80.

Only 1,160 graduates accepted the offer. PAM stressed it is making efforts to convince the Kuwaitis to take up jobs in the private sector through the ongoing media awareness campaigns to urge them to work in this vital sector, and is training them and qualify them to make it their first choice.

The Civil Service Commission stated that it is a member of a higher committee which works to tally educational outputs with the development plan.

The CSC indicated the ministries of Education and Higher Education, the Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training are also members of the Committee
