He disclosed that anti-narcotics agencies in the GCC member states will implement a coordinated awareness campaign featuring educational messages and guidance programs that emphasize the importance of treatment and rehabilitation. He added that the campaign will also focus on the factors leading to drug use, while stressing the vital role of families in protecting young people from addiction. He affirmed that the new Anti-Narcotics Law has already yielded positive results despite having been in force for only a short period. He said the statistics showed an 80 percent decline in the quantities of drugs seized, disappearance of certain narcotic substances from the local market, and a remarkable decrease in crimes related to the smuggling, distribution and trafficking of illegal drugs due to the harsh penalties stipulated in the law.
He went on to say that DCGD recorded an increase in reports submitted by families regarding children suffering from addiction. He considers this a manifestation of the growing public trust in legal procedures that allow individuals struggling with addiction to undergo treatment at specialized medical facilities without facing criminal charges or obtaining a criminal record. He indicated that coordination and information exchange among anti-narcotics agencies throughout the GCC countries are continuous, raising the effectiveness of joint Gulf security efforts to combat drug-related threats and curb the spread of drugs. He called on everyone to participate in the awareness programs and activities during the Joint Gulf Anti-Narcotics Week, stressing that combating drugs is a shared national responsibility, necessitating collective cooperation and the reporting of violations through the DCGD hotline 1884141 to guarantee public safety and social stability.
