KUWAIT CITY, May 25: The Criminal Court acquitted eight inmates of the Central Prison who were accused of forming and running a drug cartel inside the prison.

According to the case file, the Public Prosecution charged the suspects with forming a drug cartel to peddle illicit drugs and intoxicants within the country.

The first suspect is serving a term for drug related offenses, and the second and third suspects were sentenced for life in other drug related cases. Counsel to the defendants Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan said the inspection conducted by the concerned officers was carried out in error and the case therefore cannot stand based on erroneous procedure.

He accused the officers of not securing a proper warrant before carrying out the inspection, adding that the arrest order was issued after a mobile phone was seized from the first suspect.
