7500 COVID-19 tests conducted for members associated with Kuwait sports federations

KUWAIT, Aug 17: Director of the Sports Medicine Center of the Public Authority for Sports Dr. Walid Al-Anzi said that the center conducted more than 7,500 medical swabs for athletes affiliated with local sports clubs and federations to confirm that they are free from corona virus (Covid-19).

Al-Enezi added in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today, Monday, that this measure also included examining the administrative and technical staff and referees working in sports bodies, as well as the media crews assigned to cover sporting events to ensure their safety because they are in constant contact with the players during training and matches.

He stated that the center is the executive body for the decision of the tripartite committee concerned with the return of sporting activity, which is formed by the General Authority for Sports, the Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Health, which imposed on the sports bodies to take the medical swab, among many other precautions to resume the players’ training and then competitions.

He appreciated the cooperation of all members of the sports organizations with the work team supervising this work at the center and their spirit of responsibility in the need to ensure their safety before engaging in their training, stressing that the center is always ready to extend a helping hand to all athletes to ensure a safe and secure return to Kuwaiti sports.

For his part, the representative of the Tripartite Committee, the general supervisor of the survey team, Abdul Hadi Muhammad, said that the center began its work on the 22nd of last June on a daily basis to examine the largest number of athletes and to facilitate the start of their training before work is then limited to one day a week, expressing his hope for a quick return to each Sports activities as soon as possible.

In turn, the head of the field survey team of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Samia Al-Tabikh, said that the number of athletes to take the swab was great on most days, which reflects the strong desire they have to return to practicing their favorite sport in a safe manner for them and for all.

Al Tabikh stated that the center provided a large number of specialists from the Ministry of Health to finish taking the swab as soon as possible, which had a good effect on the smooth and smooth progress of the work, adding that cooperation and coordination between the members of the tripartite committee contributed to the success of this work in a short time.
