750 cyber crime cases recorded in ’21 first quarter

KUWAIT CITY, May 18: Director of the Cyber Crime Department at the Ministry of Interior Colonel Abdulaziz Al-Mutawa revealed that 750 cyber crime cases recorded in the first quarter of 2021, reports Al-Rai daily. In 2020, the number of cybercrime cases totaled 3,300 and most of which were related to the corona pandemic; while the total number of cases recorded in 2019 was 4,550.

During his first meeting with the media since assuming his position, Al-Mutawa emphasized that the department spares no effort in educating the society about the dangers of committing such crimes, especially since users of electronic accounts may not be aware that they are committing crimes. The department has instructed officers and engineers specialized in electronic accounts administration to intensify their efforts in supporting educational and social institutions through awareness seminars, courses and lectures; as well as cooperating with State institutions in raising public awareness about cyber crimes
