7 Killed, Over 70 Hospitalized After Ammonia Gas Leak at Seafood Factory in India's Tamil Nadu

TAMIL NADU, Jun 21: At least seven workers were killed and more than 70 others hospitalized after an ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing factory in India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, officials said.

The leak occurred at a seafood unit in Tiruvallur district , prompting emergency teams to launch rescue and containment operations. According to All India Radio, the injured workers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

India’s National Disaster Response Force , along with specialized chemical and biological response teams, was deployed to the site and worked under strict safety protocols to contain the leak.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident, saying he was “deeply saddened” by the accident and offering condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
