7 Killed in Twin Roadside Bomb Blasts in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

KARACHI, June 20: At least seven people were killed and several others injured in twin roadside bomb explosions in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, police said.

The blasts took place in the Bannu district, which borders the restive North Waziristan tribal region near Afghanistan, an area that has witnessed frequent militant activity in the past.

According to Bannu district police chief Yasir Afridi, the first explosion was caused by a bomb planted alongside a road and struck a passenger van, killing five people and injuring three others.

A second blast occurred shortly afterward as local residents were transporting the bodies and injured victims to ambulances. The explosion killed at least two more people, police said.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, while security forces were deployed to the area. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the explosions.
