MANILA, Jun 26: A powerful 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern Philippines on Friday evening, less than three weeks after a deadly quake in the same region claimed more than 80 lives, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake hit at 7:42 p.m. local time (1142 GMT) at a depth of 65.7 kilometers, with its epicenter located about 21 kilometers southwest of Sarangani on the southern island of Mindanao, the USGS said.

No tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Authorities were assessing the impact in affected areas.

The latest tremor comes as communities in southern Philippines continue recovering from a powerful earthquake earlier this month that left dozens dead, highlighting the country's vulnerability to seismic activity. Situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines experiences frequent earthquakes due to the movement of several major tectonic plates.
