65 years later, Kuwait-US partnership stands strong

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: Chargé d’Affaires at the American Embassy in Kuwait Steven Butler confirmed the stable and robust relationship between Kuwait and the United States of America. Butler made the statement at the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. He pointed out the significance of this milestone, as it depicts a partnership built on decades of collaboration and shared values. He indicated that 65 years ago, the newly independent Kuwait embarked on a crucial journey in its history, with the United States extending its congratulations and support. He disclosed that the roots of official engagement trace back to 1951, when the US established a consulate in Kuwait.

He stated that formal diplomatic relations were solidified on Sept 22, 1961, when the consulate was elevated to an embassy, led by Chargé d’Affaires Dayton S. Mak. He added that he is honored to hold the same position today. “I am proud that I am able to contribute to the next chapter of our shared story,” he stressed. He also revealed that the USKuwaiti relationship was molded by an enduring friendship that went through conflicts and triumphs, fostered by generations of Americans and Kuwaitis who worked hard to strengthen their ties. He affirmed the commitment of both nations to stand together through prosperous and challenging times, concluding with a hopeful message: “Today, we celebrate 65 years of friendship and partnership. We look toward the future as we always have—side by side.”
