62,398 expats work permits cancelled in last 6 months

KUWAIT CITY, July 14: Public Authority for Manpower released official figures of expatriates, more than 62,000 expats cancelled work visas in the last 6 months of the current year 2021. Total of 62,398 work permits were cancelled from Jan 10th till the end of June. 2,011 left Kuwait for good, 1,987 work permits were cancelled due to the death, 1,411 transferred to family residence. 38,873 work permits expired due to expats stranded outside Kuwait and 116 work visas were cancelled due to absence from work. 334 expats’ work permits were transferred to the government sector and 178 work permits were transferred to domestic workers.

While the number of work permits for expatriate workers has risen to exceed the level of 62,000 canceled work permits, as a result of canceling work permits for some while remaining in the labor market, after canceling 344 expatriate work permits for transfer to the government sector and 178 canceling work permits for transferring to domestic workers.  8,814 expats were added to the labor market, reports Al Rai. 5,759 expats transferred from domestic to work visa, 789 transferred from govt sector. 111 expats transferred work permits to a partner and 64 expats renewed their work permit as a partner.
