KUWAIT CITY, Aug 2: The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait has confirmed deportation of 62 Sri Lankan individuals who had been residing in Kuwait without proper documentation, facilitated by temporary passports.
Sri Lankan Daily News reported that these individuals were received at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport. The group consisted of 59 domestic workers.
A spokesperson from the Sri Lankan embassy in Kuwait stated that these deportees comprise a faction of Sri Lankan laborers who had left their contracted domestic service jobs and they had taken up various jobs in Kuwait, earning a monthly wage of 250 dinars, all were residing in provisional accommodations.
Through collaboration between the Sri Lankan embassy in Kuwait, along with the Ministry of Interior, the Criminal Investigation Department, the judicial system, and other pertinent authorities, temporary passports were arranged and utilized to facilitate their return to Sri Lanka, reports Al Qabas. The spokesperson went on to reveal that there are presently over 2,000 Sri Lankan domestic workers registered with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait who have expressed their intention to repatriate to their home country
