JAKARTA, Jul 3: A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of eastern Indonesia on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake occurred at a depth of 120 kilometers (74.6 miles), about 58 kilometers (36 miles) west of Tobelo in North Maluku province, at 11:31 a.m. local time (0231 GMT).

Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat.

Indonesia lies along the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire, making it one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, with no significant impact reported immediately after the tremor.
