WASHINGTON, June 27: US Vice President JD Vance warned Iran on Friday that any further acts of aggression would be answered with force, declaring that while Tehran has agreed to a ceasefire, "violence will be met with violence."
In a post on X, Vance said Iran had signed a ceasefire agreement and urged Tehran to resolve any disputes over the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) through diplomatic channels rather than military action.
"Iran signed a ceasefire agreement. We have honored it. If they have disagreements about how the MOU is being applied, they can pick up the phone. But violence will be met with violence," Vance wrote.
His warning came shortly after US military aircraft carried out a new round of strikes inside Iran, targeting key military infrastructure.
According to a US official who spoke to PBS NewsHour, six US aircraft struck four military targets in southern Iran. The targets included radar installations as well as missile and drone storage facilities in the coastal city of Sirik, an area overlooking the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes follow what the US military described as an Iranian drone attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz earlier on Friday. Washington said the operation was intended to degrade Iran's ability to conduct further attacks and to protect freedom of navigation through one of the world's busiest energy shipping lanes.
The latest military action marks another sharp escalation despite the recently announced ceasefire, raising concerns that the fragile agreement could unravel if both sides continue exchanging strikes.
Iran has accused the United States of attempting to reinterpret the terms of the ceasefire agreement, while Washington maintains that its military response was defensive and necessary to deter further attacks.
The renewed exchange of strikes has heightened tensions across the Gulf region, with international observers warning that any further escalation could threaten regional security and disrupt global energy supplies.
