5,879 Expats deported for health issues

KUWAIT CITY, May 20:Health Minister Dr. Basel Al-Sabah said 5,879 expatriates have been deported from the country from 2016 until May 2018 due to infectious diseases, reports Al-Shahed daily. The Minister, in response to a parliamentary query raised by MP Jama’an Al-Harbash, said the deportees included 576 persons with AIDS, 244 suffering from filarial, 2,068 cases of tuberculosis, in addition to 2,991 cases of hepatitis.

The minister disclosed 18 lawsuits were filed against the Ministry on the issue of health condition of migrant workers and after submitting concrete evidences the final rulings were issued in favor of the Ministry. The medical re-examination mechanism shall be implemented concerning persons who were deported on medical grounds in the country of the patient after an application is submitted to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health.

If the Undersecretary agrees, a direct letter will be sent to the health office outside the country for reexamination. If the examination proves negative, the Health Undersecretary will address the competent authorities to lift the ban.
