54 tons of unfit food to be destroyed by year-end

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: In a recent interview, Talal Al-Daihani, the Director of the Jahra Governorate Inspection Department at the Food and Nutrition Public Authority, highlighted the department’s unwavering commitment to ensuring food safety in Kuwait’s largest governorate. Al-Daihani announced that 54 tons of spoiled food, deemed unfit for human consumption, would be destroyed by the end of 2023, thanks to the dedicated efforts of 30 inspectors working under exceptional circumstances.

While emphasizing the need to increase the number of inspectors and provide a headquarters within the Al-Jahra Governorate, Al-Daihani discussed the department’s achievements in 2023. This included the issuance of 1,300 new licenses for food establishments, along with the recording of 910 violations and 290 pledges and warnings through various inspection tours covering approximately 2,400 establishments.

Addressing concerns about malicious violations, Al-Daihani expressed confidence in the authority’s inspectors, assuring that they diligently fulfill their duties to provide safe foodstuffs to consumers. The director highlighted the department’s move towards electronic registration of food violations in the coming year.

In terms of oversight in the Sulaibiya area, considered one of the distinctive markets in the Gulf, Al-Daihani noted the entrance of approximately 2,800 trucks loaded with foodstuffs daily. With 15 inspectors working in three shifts, the special center in Shubra Al-Sulaibiya conducts continuous inspections to ensure food and worker safety, inspecting 19 restaurants and central markets in the area.

Al-Daihani extended his gratitude to the inspectors of the Jahra Inspection Department for their commendable work and performance, emphasizing their dedication to upholding the interests of the nation and its citizens. In offering advice to owners and workers of food establishments, he urged strict adherence to Food Authority regulations, licensing procedures, cleanliness standards, and the provision of healthy and suitable food to consumers. Non-compliance may lead to closures and financial penalties.
