54 persons will lose Kuwaiti nationality in govt decision

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22: The Supreme Committee for the Verification of Kuwaiti Nationality has decided to withdraw the citizenship of 54 people, citing Articles 10 and 11 of the Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959, reports Al- Qabas daily. Article 10 states that “A Kuwaiti woman who marries a foreigner shall not lose her Kuwaiti nationality unless she acquires the nationality of her husband at her own request.”

Article 11 states that “A Kuwaiti citizen shall lose his Kuwaiti nationality if he voluntarily naturalizes according to the law of another State. His wife, being a Kuwaiti national, shall not lose her Kuwaiti nationality by virtue of her husband’s naturalization unless she voluntarily acquires the nationality of her husband. “His children, being minors, shall also lose their Kuwaiti nationality if they themselves acquire ipso facto (by that very fact or act) the nationality of that State according to the law of which their father has become naturalized if that law so provides.
