KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2, (Agencies): Approximately 5,000 female doctors face uncertainty as the Taliban has obstructed their participation in a crucial medical examination. According to the BBC, the prerequisite "practice exam" overseen by the Afghan Medical Council must be completed for individuals to obtain a work license, be registered as a doctor, and engage in medical practice. It was highlighted that the Taliban has restricted access to the exam only to male graduates.

A former official from the Afghan Ministry of Health revealed that women constituted 40 percent of those admitted to medical colleges before the Taliban assumed control. During the Taliban's governance, women were relegated to roles as nurses and midwives, and since December 2022, medical colleges have ceased accepting female students.
