KUWAIT CITY: Three separate rulings were issued by the Court of Cassation, the Criminal Court and the Misdemeanor Court in cases involving bribery, incitement of sectarian strife and abuse through social media.

The Court of Cassation, headed by Counselor Sultan Boursli, upheld a Court of Appeal verdict sentencing an enforcement officer to five years in prison after he was convicted of demanding KD 100 as a bribe in exchange for performing a duty related to his job.

According to case records, authorities received a report alleging that the accused had requested money to facilitate a work-related procedure. Detectives subsequently arranged a controlled operation, during which the exchange of money was documented and photographed. The suspect was arrested in the act. In its reasoning, the court affirmed that the elements of bribery were fully established, citing technical and testimonial evidence supported by video recordings, and upheld the penalty imposed.

In a separate case, the Criminal Court, headed by Counselor Abdul Wahab Al-Muaili, fined a prominent lawyer KD 5,000 and ordered the suspension of his account on the X platform for one year. The court convicted him of inciting sectarian discord and showing contempt toward a religious sect after he posted an offensive phrase alongside an image of Shiite religious authorities.
