DAMASCUS, Jul 2: At least five people were killed and 16 others injured in a bomb explosion at a café in central Damascus on Thursday, according to the Syrian Health Ministry cited by Alikhbariah TV.

The blast occurred at a café on Al-Nasr Street, near the Palace of Justice, after an explosive device was reportedly planted inside the premises, Alikhbariah’s correspondent said.

Emergency teams rushed to the scene following the explosion, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Several of the wounded are reported to be in serious condition, raising fears the death toll could rise.

Security forces cordoned off the area shortly after the blast, blocking access to the street while investigators examined the site and collected evidence. Authorities have not yet released details on the perpetrators or possible motives behind the attack.

The explosion caused damage to the café and surrounding shops in the busy central district, which is typically frequented by residents and office workers.

An investigation is underway to determine how the device was planted and whether the attack was targeted or intended to cause mass casualties in a civilian area.
