MUSCAT, Oct 3: Five Indian nationals were safely brought ashore with assistance from Omani authorities after the Kuwait-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian Embassy in Oman said.

The embassy said it coordinated with Omani authorities to assist the crew members and ensure their safe evacuation. “All 5 Indian nationals have been shifted ashore safely,” the mission said in a post on X.

The source of the projectile and the extent of damage to the tanker were not immediately disclosed. The incident comes amid heightened maritime security risks in and around the Gulf, with authorities closely monitoring commercial shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Indian authorities are also tracking the safety of thousands of Indian seafarers working aboard commercial vessels in the region. Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said earlier this week that more than 4,500 Indian seafarers were serving aboard commercial ships operating in the region, including Indian crew members aboard Indian- and foreign-flagged vessels carrying cargo bound for India. India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is coordinating with diplomatic missions and authorities in the region to monitor vessel movements and provide assistance when required.
