KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3: The General Department of Criminal Investigation has arrested five Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly selling electronic cigarettes to school students through an illegally operated grocery store inside a residential house in the Saad Al-Abdullah area.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the grocery store operated near a school and relied on a delivery and pickup system outside the house to distribute e-cigarettes to teenagers.
The operation followed a tip-off about the sale of electronic cigarettes to school students. After conducting investigations and surveillance, security personnel confirmed the information and identified how orders were received, prepared and delivered.
The first suspect was arrested outside the house while allegedly selling e-cigarettes to school students. The remaining four suspects were apprehended during a search of the premises.
The search resulted in the seizure of:
- 13 large boxes of e-cigarettes.
- 23 small boxes of e-cigarettes.
- 219 small bags of tobacco.
- KD 1,722 believed to be proceeds from the sales.
During questioning, the five suspects admitted to working at the grocery store and distributing responsibilities among themselves.
Their duties included supervising workers, collecting money, receiving orders by telephone, preparing the products and arranging deliveries.
The suspects and the seized items have been referred to the competent authorities for necessary legal action.
The Ministry of Interior said the operation forms part of ongoing security efforts to protect minors and safeguard their health and safety.
