5-year-old and 10-year-old students were hit and killed near Maryland school.

WASHINGTON, Nov 22, (Agencies): Tragedy struck in Riverdale Park, Md, as police have identified two elementary school students who lost their lives after being struck by a car on their way to school on Monday morning. The Prince George’s County police department revealed the victims as 5-year-old Sky Sosa and 10-year-old Shalom Mbah, both local residents, according to a police press release.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 8 am on Monday, where both Sky and Shalom had suffered critical injuries. Despite receiving immediate medical aid and being transported to a local hospital, the young victims succumbed to their injuries “a short time later,” as reported by the police.

Additionally, a man related to one of the children was also hit by the vehicle, but fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening. According to the investigation, the tragic incident occurred as the two children and the man were crossing the street at a designated crosswalk. A van, driven by a woman, made a left turn and struck them. The driver emerged unharmed from the collision.

Police Chief Malik Aziz, speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. He expressed the department’s deepest condolences to the families and friends of Sky and Shalom, emphasizing the profound sadness surrounding the tragic event. The van’s driver remained at the scene, cooperating with authorities as they continued to probe the details of this heartbreaking incident.
