45 Reckless Drivers Detained as Traffic Crackdown Intensifies

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 6: As part of its ongoing efforts to regulate traffic and enhance road safety, the General Directorate of Traffic intensified field inspection campaigns across major roads and highways nationwide during the past week, from December 22 to 28, 2025, to monitor and apprehend violators of traffic laws.

The campaigns, conducted under the supervision of the Head of the Traffic Affairs and Operations Sector, Brigadier Abdullah Al-Ateeqi, uncovered several serious traffic violations. A total of 45 reckless drivers were referred to traffic detention, while 19 juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution for driving vehicles without valid licenses.

Vehicles and motorcycles found in violation of Article 207 of the Executive Regulations of the Traffic Law were impounded. Overall, 19,362 traffic violations were recorded, leading to the impoundment of 254 vehicles and 15 motorcycles.

As part of parallel security operations, authorities apprehended 11 individuals for holding expired residency permits and referred four others to the General Directorate for Drug Control. Additionally, six individuals without official identification were arrested, along with 21 individuals wanted in absconding cases or under outstanding arrest warrants. Authorities also seized 25 vehicles wanted by the courts.

During the same period, the General Directorate of Traffic processed 2,915 traffic reports, including 1,546 traffic accidents. Of these, 242 resulted in injuries or fatalities, while 1,302 caused material damage only.

The Traffic and Operations Sector reaffirmed its commitment to continuing intensive traffic and security campaigns nationwide to reduce accidents and promote a culture of compliance with traffic laws. It stressed that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who violates regulations or endangers the safety of road users.
