TEHRAN, Mar 1: Israel’s military said Sunday its strikes had killed 40 top Iranian military officials, including the armed forces’ chief of staff, Abdolrahim Mousavi. Neither Iran nor the U.S. immediately commented on the claim. It comes after U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday that the joint Israeli-U.S. attack killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Israel also said Saturday that its opening strikes killed other top Iranian defense officials as they gathered in meetings, including Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and Mohammad Pakpour, the commander of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. There was no comment from Iran or the U.S. Mousavi’s predecessor, Mohammad Bagheri, was killed by Israeli strikes in the June war.
