ISLAMABAD, Feb 12, (Xinhua): Four policemen were killed and several others injured in an exchange of fire in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police officials said.
The incident happened when a group of terrorists attacked a group of police during a search operation in the Paniala area of Dera Ismail Khan district of the province, killing four policemen, including a senior police officer on the spot, while injuring three officers, local police told Xinhua on Wednesday.
In retaliatory fire by the police, one of the attackers was also killed, said police.
Following the incident, an additional contingent of police, along with rescue teams, reached the scene and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.
Police have started an investigation and launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to arrest the terrorists involved in the attack.
