KUWAIT CITY, Sep 10: The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) carried out a surprise inspection campaign at several food establishments to ensure food safety and protect public health. During the operation, inspectors from the Mubarakiya Food Inspection Center seized 34 carcasses, weighing approximately 320 kilograms, deemed unfit for human consumption.
The meat was confiscated from a food facility in the Mirqab area after inspection teams discovered clear signs of spoilage. Laboratory and field tests revealed abnormal changes in the meat’s natural properties, including discoloration, foul odors, and altered texture. Inspectors also observed an unnatural green hue, visible fungal growth, and strong odors, confirming that the meat had deteriorated and posed serious health risks.
Head of the Mubarakiya Inspection Center, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Kandari, alongside inspectors Ali Abdullah Al-Salem, Khaled Abdullah Al-Ustadh, and Abdullah Mahmoud Talib, reported via social media that those responsible for the establishment had attempted to conceal evidence of spoilage. Expiration dates and food data cards had been deliberately removed from the displayed carcasses in an effort to market unsafe meat as fit for consumption—a practice considered a direct threat to public health and a violation of Kuwait’s food safety regulations.
Authorities confirmed that strict legal measures would be taken against the violating facility. These measures include closure of the establishment, issuance of violation and food destruction reports, and referral of responsible individuals to competent authorities for investigation and penalties.
The inspectors urged the public to report any suspected food safety violations and emphasized that surprise inspection campaigns will continue to ensure compliance and safeguard consumer health across Kuwait.
