Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior announced earlier Monday the impoundment of several vehicles as part of strict measures taken against motorists who committed serious traffic violations, such as reckless driving and endangering other road users. In a press statement, the ministry revealed the vehicles were impounded at a metal recycling plant after the General Traffic Department completed the legal procedures. It pointed out that this action is in line with the firm approach it adopted in dealing with traffic behaviors that threaten public safety or disrupt traffic. It explained that the measures constitute a well-established system aimed at protecting lives and reducing dangerous behaviors, which could cause human and material losses.
The ministry emphasized that the law is strictly enforced against anyone who endangers others, affirming the continuation of round-the-clock traffic and monitoring campaigns throughout the country to guarantee a safe environment characterized by compliance and respect for the law. A security source informed the newspaper that those who committed serious traffic violations like reckless driving, speeding and racing are immediately referred to the Traffic Police Station, where the necessary procedures are completed. The source also revealed that in May, June, and July, following the implementation of the new Traffic Law, 102 reckless driving violation citations were issued and legal action was taken against the violators. The sources said reckless driving violations warrant a prison sentence of one to three years and a fine of KD 600 to KD 1,000 dinars or one of these two penalties. The source added that in case of settlement, the fine is KD150.
