313 Arrested in Qatar for Violating Social Media Law

DOHA, Mar 9: The Qatari Ministry of Interior (MOI) announced that security authorities have arrested 313 individuals of various nationalities for violations related to the misuse of social media platforms.

In a statement, the Ministry said that the Economic and Cyber Crimes Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation apprehended the suspects for filming and sharing videos, spreading misleading information and rumors, and engaging in online activities that could incite public opinion. These actions, the Ministry noted, constitute violations of regulations and instructions issued by the competent authorities.

Legal and administrative measures have been taken against those involved.

The MOI stressed the importance of refraining from filming or circulating videos and rumors about the current situation, urging the public to rely only on official and accredited sources for information.

The Ministry reaffirmed that concerned authorities will not hesitate to take the necessary legal action against anyone found to have committed such violations.
