30 smoking citations issued in Al-Mubarakiya campaign
A new study shows that smoking even two cigarettes a day raises the risk of heart disease and death.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2: An intensive field campaign conducted by the Environmental Police Department of the Security Directorates Affairs Sector at Al-Mubarakiya Market resulted in the issuance of 30 citations for smoking, one citation for littering, and one citation against an establishment for allowing smoking on its premises. The Ministry of Interior stated on its Instagram account that the campaign was part of its ongoing efforts to enforce the Environmental Protection Law and curb illegal practices to maintain public cleanliness.

According to the law, the environmental penalties for these violations are as follows:

■ Smoking in enclosed or semi-enclosed spaces carries a fine ranging from KD 50 to KD 100

■ Establishments that allow smoking are fined between KD 1,000 and KD 5,000

■ Littering carries a fine ranging from KD 50 to KD 500.
