CAMBRIDGESHIRE, Jun 19: A three-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being thrown into a crocodile enclosure at a British zoo, with the owner’s wife making a dramatic rescue by jumping into the pit to save him.
The child was watching reptiles at Johnsons of Old Hurst when he was allegedly thrown about 15 feet from a viewing platform into the tropical house containing around 15 crocodiles and alligators.
Witnesses said zoo owner Tracey Johnson immediately entered the enclosure and pulled the injured boy to safety. The child suffered serious injuries, including a broken arm and pelvis, and remains in critical but stable condition.
Police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Norfolk on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities said the suspect and the child are not believed to have known each other.
Reptile expert Chris Newman said the boy’s injuries may have mainly resulted from the 15-foot fall, though he warned that a crocodile could have reacted violently if the child landed close to one.
The zoo’s owners praised the emergency response, while police continue investigating how the child ended up inside the secure enclosure. The tropical house has been closed until further notice as inquiries continue.
