TEHRAN, Jun 25: Three commercial tankers attempting to sail through a US-declared maritime corridor in Omani waters turned back after receiving warnings from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to reports from IRGC-affiliated media outlets.

The vessels were identified as the UAE-owned BLUE STAR I, Japan’s AZUMASAN, and the Japan-managed OMEGA TRADER. The reports said the ships changed course after being warned by Iranian forces while attempting to use the designated route.

IRGC-linked outlets also reported that another vessel was later attacked near Oman, although details surrounding the incident, including the identity of the attacker and the circumstances of the incident, remained unclear.

The developments come amid heightened maritime tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route, following competing claims over navigation arrangements and security measures in the region.

No immediate independent confirmation of the IRGC reports or comments from the vessels’ operators was available.
