A shooting in central Afghanistan killed four, including three Spanish citizens, confirmed by authorities.

AFGHANISTAN, May 18: A shooting incident in central Afghanistan on Friday resulted in the death of four individuals, including three Spanish citizens, as confirmed by Spanish and Afghan authorities.

Earlier reports from Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry spokesperson, Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani, indicated that the casualties occurred in Bamyan city, with three Europeans and one Afghan citizen among the deceased.

According to Reuters, citing Qani, the attack also left four foreign nationals and three Afghans injured. Authorities have arrested four individuals in connection with the incident.

A Spanish diplomatic source informed CNN that one Spanish citizen is among the wounded. The Spanish Foreign Ministry, through its Emergency Consular Unit, is actively working to ascertain the details of the situation, assist those affected, and communicate with their families.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed grief over the tragedy, describing the victims as tourists in a post on X. He assured that the Spanish government is closely monitoring the situation and offering all necessary assistance.

In response to the incident, Qani extended condolences for the deaths, condemning the crime and pledging to apprehend and punish the perpetrators.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to one of its citizens injured in the attack, following reports that an Australian national was among the casualties.
