TOKYO, Feb 18, (Xinhua): Three men were buried under snow in northern Japan on Wednesday before being rescued, with one of them, likely in his 60s, unconscious, local media reported.
A nearby resident made an emergency call at around 10:35 am local time, saying three people had been buried under snow that fell from the roof of a building in the city of Sapporo, Hokkaido Prefecture, Kyodo News reported, citing the local fire department.
Firefighters rescued the three men from the snow. One of them was transported to hospital in an unconscious state, while the other two, believed to be in their 70s, were able to communicate after being freed, the report said.
The temperature in Sapporo area was 2.9 degrees Celsius as of 10 a.m. local time, a reading normally recorded in early March, according to the local weather observatory.
The building is believed to be a company warehouse. Local authorities are investigating the incident.
