KUWAIT CITY, May 20: The Kuwait Court of Appeal has sentenced a gang of three Egyptian nationals to five years in prison and fined each of them KD5,000 after convicting them of tampering with and forging invoices issued by the Ministry of Electricity and Water through unauthorised access to the ministry’s automated system.

The court found the defendants guilty of exploiting electronic systems to manipulate official billing records, following their arrest by the Cybercrimes Department of the Ministry of Interior, acting on a complaint filed by the Electricity Ministry.

The ruling came after investigations revealed that the accused had accessed the system illegally and altered data related to electricity invoices.

In the same case, the Court of Appeal upheld the acquittal of a businessman and a security guard who had also been implicated in the investigation but were found not guilty.
