28,984 Expats Deported from Kuwait Since January

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 5: More than 28,984 expatriates of various nationalities have been deported from Kuwait between January 1, 2025, and September 2025.

According to the source, the majority of those deported were residency law violators, absconders, and beggars, as well as individuals deported for reasons of public interest, drug possession or use, or involvement in suspicious or illegal activities. Many of them were classified as irregular workers or persons posing potential security or social risks.

Addressing inquiries about deportation procedures, the source explained that if the deportee or their sponsor fails to provide an airline ticket, the Ministry of Interior covers the travel cost through travel agencies contracted with the ministry, which operate offices within the Deportation Department. The ministry then registers a financial claim against the sponsor — whether an individual or a company — for the value of the ticket and places a travel or financial ban on them until the amount is repaid.

The source emphasized that the Deportation Department aims to complete the deportation process as swiftly as possible, with the average stay of a deportee being around three days, provided that the individual holds a valid passport or emergency travel document. However, some cases require longer detention due to delays by certain embassies in issuing travel documents or the existence of travel bans imposed by the Public Prosecution, often requiring the individual’s presence at court hearings.

For deportees without travel documents, coordination is carried out with the General Administration of Correctional Institutions, which in turn contacts the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Consular Affairs Department. This department liaises with the relevant embassies to issue emergency travel documents, enabling the authorities to execute the deportation order.

The source further confirmed that security campaigns launched by various sectors of the Ministry of Interior are ongoing, and these operations have led to the arrest of thousands of law violators across the country, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
