KUWAIT CITY, Apr 21: Amid a weak and unexpected turnout, the Ministry of the Interior received undocumented Sri Lankan community amid strict security and preventive measures, as the number of those registered on the first day did not exceed 280, including 198 women.

Major General Abdin Ali Abdin stated that the number of violators from the Sri Lankan community is estimated at 16,000 violators, of whom 13,000 are residency violator, and 3,000 visas have been expired.

Abdin added, “The turnout was weak in the first hours, due to the majority not having passports or they have expired, or their residency is valid and they wish to travel.”

Abdin stated that the Sri Lankan embassy did not cooperate in renewal of the passports of the violators, or issuing a lost replacement, which compelled us not to receive the violators and asked them to go to the embassy of their country.

He pointed out that the school, which was allocated in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, receives all nationalities from violators without specifying a specific day for those who wish to travel and throughout the days of the week. As for the school of Farwaniya, it is dedicated to implementing the ministerial decision to exempt violators from fines, and according to specific days for communities to prevent crowding.
