277 Tons of Spoiled Food Destroyed

KUWAIT CITY, July 12: Farwaniya Inspection Department of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) affirmed that it destroyed 277 tons of food items, which were spoiled and unfit for human consumption, during the four month period from the beginning of January to the end of April 2023, reports Al- Rai daily. On Tuesday, the department carried out an inspection tour of some central markets in continuation of efforts to ensure the safety of the food items. According to the Acting Director General of PAFN Dr. Mishaal Al-Zoubi, the tour is part of the series of tours carried out by PAFN in various areas.
Specialized inspectors who hold the status of judicial officers participated in the tour. It resulted in issuing citations against some food establishments and making some observations to those in charge of these establishments. He stressed that the authority’s inspectors perform their role 24 hours a day.
Meanwhile, Acting Deputy Director General of PAFN Sattam Al-Jalal affirmed that the inspection tours of the central markets for food items are ongoing in all governorates to ensure the safety of the food items and the application of the health requirements. He called on the owners of food establishments not to employ any worker without a health certificate, and to activate the supervisory role to follow up food facilities and ensure their safety.
In addition, Director of the Farwaniya Inspection Department Dr. Nawaf Al- Enezi affirmed that the tour is part of the ongoing efforts to control food items and ensure their safety in all parts of the governorate, adding that the inspection teams work around the clock in a shift system with the aim of controlling food safety by ensuring the proper application of health and technical requirements in this regard.
