27 killed, more than 40 injured in Russian drone strike near Kyiv

KYIV, Aug 29: At least 27 people were killed and 42 others, including four children, were injured in a Russian drone strike on a warehouse near Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities said Saturday.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said the attack struck the Bucha district and damaged around 50 residential buildings. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a warehouse in the village of Myla was hit and that more than 370 people had been evacuated. Among those killed was Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka rural community.

Zelenskyy said criminal proceedings had been opened over alleged official negligence, citing regulations prohibiting the storage of ammunition near residential areas. Ukraine’s Air Force said its defenses shot down 233 of 267 drones launched by Russia overnight and reported the launch of an Onyx cruise missile and an Iskander-M ballistic missile.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces had targeted logistics centers in Kyiv and the surrounding region, including an ammunition depot in Myla allegedly used by Ukrainian defense technology company Fire Point.

Russian forces also reported strikes on port facilities in Izmail and Mykolaiv. Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said one person was killed and three injured, while five grain trucks were destroyed. In Mykolaiv, authorities reported damage to energy facilities that left more than 300,000 subscribers without electricity.

The claims could not be independently verified amid the ongoing war. Both Russia and Ukraine deny deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, saying their strikes are aimed at military or military-related facilities.
