KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has approved 26 out of 50 companies that applied to supply and invest in school cafeterias, in collaboration with the Activities Department at the Ministry of Education, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Dr. Shaima Al-Asfour, Deputy Director General of the Community Nutrition Affairs Sector, noted that the application period was extended from mid-April to July. Nawal Al-Jazzaf, nutrition specialist and head of the Cafeteria Development Program team, confirmed that the approved food items comply with regulations set by the Fatwa and Legislation Department. The regulations are divided into two main parts -- adherence to health requirements and nutritional standards. The approved food items meet these standards, offering a balanced diet with essential food groups, fortified with vitamins and minerals, and low in sugar and salt. This initiative aims to ensure that school cafeterias provide nutritious and healthy food options for students
