24,530 infected in India with 780 deaths

NEW DELHI, April 25: Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday that COVID-19 outbreak has claimed 780 lives so far while the number of infections climbed to 24,530.


The health ministry said that there were 57 fresh deaths and 1,429 positive cases in the last 24 hours.

The health ministry said that there was a decrease in the number of deaths as one day death went up to 57 from the earlier figure of 37 while the number of infections saw a slight decrease from 1,684 one day earlier to 1,429.


Out of the total infected cases, 5,063 people were discharged from hospitals after they recovered, the ministry informed.


Maharashtra remains the worst affected Indian state as the death toll climbed to 301 while there are 6,817 infections followed by Gujarat with 127 deaths and 2,815 positive cases as the pandemic hit 32 Indian states.
The authorities imposed few weeks back a nation-wide lock-down slapping curfew-like restrictions, closing down schools, educational institutions and universities and banning religious festivals and huge gatherings.
