Officials search for a 21-year-old man in Lake Granby, Colorado.

WASHINGTON, Dec 6, (Agencies): The lifeless body of a 21-year-old man, who had been missing in Colorado since his kayak capsized in Lake Granby over the weekend, was discovered. On Sunday, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that they received a 911 call at around 6:45 am local time, alerting them to a male in the water near Deer Island. However, adverse weather conditions, including heavy winds and choppy waters, hindered a comprehensive search, as mentioned in the sheriff’s office press release.

The subsequent day, at approximately 7:30 pm, responders successfully located the man’s remains on the lake bed. Utilizing an underwater remote-operated vehicle (ROV), the authorities retrieved the deceased’s body, as detailed in a press release from the sheriff’s office. The Grand County Coroner’s Office then took custody of the kayaker’s body, and the family of the deceased arrived in Colorado after the grim discovery. The coroner’s office is expected to disclose the identity of the deceased and the cause and manner of his death at a later date.

Grand County Sheriff Brett Schroetlin expressed his regrets, stating, “Unfortunately, over the last several years, Grand County has experienced a significant number of water-related emergencies and recoveries.” He highlighted the establishment of the Headwaters Water Rescue Authority, a collaborative effort involving law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel, emphasizing their commitment to planning, preparing, and promptly responding to incidents to provide closure to affected families.
