2025 Vision: UAE to launch inaugural Moon Space Station, unveiling a new era in space exploration

DUBAI, Jan 7: The UAE is set to play a pivotal role in a groundbreaking global initiative aimed at constructing and launching the inaugural space station encircling the Moon. On Sunday, it was revealed that the country’s adept space engineers will spearhead the construction of a 10-tonne module as part of the Lunar Gateway project.In addition to this significant contribution, the UAE plans to dispatch the first Arab and Emirati astronaut into the Moon’s orbit, marking a historic achievement. As part of the project, the nation will establish two essential facilities: one dedicated to astronaut training and another serving as the operations center for the lunar station.

Anticipated to be launched in 2025, the compact space station is envisioned as a versatile outpost in lunar orbit. According to Nasa, this station holds pivotal importance in the Artemis missions, aiming to retrace human footsteps on the Moon and set the groundwork for the initial human voyages to Mars.

The UAE joins forces with other global entities such as the US, Japan, Canada, and the European Union in the collaborative effort to establish Nasa’s Lunar Gateway station. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President, officially declared the country’s “contributions” to the Lunar Gateway initiative, emphasizing its role as humanity’s premier space station around the Moon.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, highlighted the significance of the lunar space station in facilitating human return to the Moon. He expressed determination, stating that work on the project would commence promptly, positioning the UAE at the forefront of one of humanity’s most ambitious space endeavors over the next decade.

It’s worth noting that in 2020, the UAE demonstrated its commitment to space exploration by becoming among the initial signatories of NASA’s Artemis Accords, underscoring its dedication to collaborative and peaceful space exploration initiatives.
