KUWAIT CITY, Jun 13: KUWAIT CITY, June 13: Two Kuwaiti citizens were placed in precautionary detention after being caught driving at excessive speeds of 181 km/h and 177 km/h, days after authorities introduced stricter penalties targeting reckless drivers, including the deportation of expatriates caught exceeding 150 km/h and the detention of citizens committing similar violations.
According to statistics released by the General Directorate of Traffic for last Thursday and obtained by local media, the two motorists were detained in line with directives issued by the Minister of Interior aimed at enhancing road safety and curbing dangerous driving behavior.
The report also revealed that mobile radar units recorded 152 speeding violations during the day. Authorities noted that the remaining offenders exceeded the speed limit by less than 30 km/h.
Traffic enforcement campaigns extended beyond highways and residential neighborhoods to hospital areas across the country. A total of 223 traffic violations were issued around major medical facilities. These included 21 violations at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, most of them related to illegal parking, 102 violations in the vicinity of Al-Jahra Hospital, and 60 violations near Al-Adan Hospital.
In addition, traffic officers issued 194 citations for mobile phone use while driving and failure to wear seatbelts. Of these, 120 violations were for using a mobile phone behind the wheel, while 74 were for not wearing a seatbelt.
Special enforcement campaigns targeting commercial and public transport vehicles resulted in 118 violations against trucks, 77 against taxis, including one for failing to use a fare meter, and 65 against buses, including one for not adhering to designated lanes.
Authorities also recorded 16 violations for excessive vehicle noise, 84 for illegal window tinting, and 14 for driving without displaying license plates.
During the 24-hour enforcement campaign, four Kuwaiti citizens were arrested for driving without a valid license despite being above the legal driving age. They were taken into custody pending legal procedures.
In a separate case, an Egyptian expatriate was referred for administrative deportation after being caught illegally transporting passengers in a private vehicle.
The intensified traffic campaigns form part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Interior to improve road safety, enforce traffic regulations, and reduce dangerous driving practices across the country.
