2 Killed, 14 Injured in Houthi Missile and Drone Attack on Yemen’s Marib

MARIB, Yemen, Aug. 7: Two people were killed and 14 others injured on Friday after Houthi forces launched missile and drone attacks on the central Yemeni city of Marib, according to Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

Health Minister Qasim Buhaibeh said the preliminary toll followed strikes targeting residential neighborhoods and camps housing internally displaced people. He said all health facilities had been instructed to raise their alert and preparedness levels to deal with potential additional casualties.

Earlier in the day, Yemen’s Defense Ministry said government forces intercepted and shot down several Houthi drones over Marib. The Houthi group did not immediately comment on the government's statements.

The latest attack comes amid renewed clashes on several front lines across Yemen since early July, despite a relative lull in large-scale fighting since April 2022. Yemen’s civil war, now in its 11th year, pits the Saudi-backed internationally recognized government against the Iran-backed Houthi movement, which has controlled the capital, Sanaa, and other areas since 2014.
