185,816 caught using cell phones

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25: Statistics from the Traffic Affairs and Operations Sector at the Ministry of Interior revealed that 185,816 violations of the rule prohibiting the use of a mobile phone while driving were recorded in 2023, reports Al-Qabas daily. On Jan 3, 2023, the ministry announced that it started monitoring traffic violations, particularly using a mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seat belt, through the sixth-generation traffic control cameras.

At the time, the General Traffic Department explained that the installation of the new cameras (sixth generation) is in line with its commitment to develop its traffic monitoring system, increase the level of road safety, and raise public awareness of the need to drive safely.
