Public Authority for Manpower enforces new work hour rules starting in November.
KUWAIT CITY, June 27: Nasser Al-Humaidhi, Deputy Director General for Labor Affairs at the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), revealed that the number of training opportunities offered by private sector companies in the summer student training program reached 1,711 provided by 79 entities operating in various sectors, while the number of registered applicants reached 3,217 and the number of those accepted was 1,533. Al-Humaidi said the training period will begin on July 1 and will continue until the end of August, adding that the registration was from April 24 to June 11. He indicated that the project is in accordance with the national policy on unifying and coordinating efforts to regulate the labor market and support nationals working in the private sector through different means, including training students to work in the private sector. He pointed out that PAM has been offering the summer training program since 2004. He disclosed that more than 12,000 students have so far been trained in many sectors -- banking, retail, insurance, cooperative societies, telecommunications, law, factories and others.
The applicants for the training program should be Kuwaiti citizens and enrolled in one of the following educational stages:
■ Third and fourth years at the university,
■ Second year in colleges and institutes where the study period does not exceed two academic years,
■ Grades 11 and 12. The applicants must not be registered in the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS), should attend the training sessions during the morning or evening hours of the program, and completed at least half of the required courses
