KABUL, March 2, (Xinhua): At least 17 civilians were killed and 15 others injured over the past 24 hours following attacks carried out by Pakistani military forces in eastern Afghanistan, the local media Tolo News said on Monday.

The casualties were reported after military strikes hit residential areas in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces. The wounded were transferred to nearby medical facilities for treatment while the condition of several injured remains serious, the report said.

Authorities said women and children were among the victims, and assessments of casualties and damages are ongoing. In recent days, military tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have escalated with several rounds of exchange of fire.
