KUWAIT CITY, June 23: The General Traffic Department, which is under the Traffic Affairs and Operations Sector in the Interior Ministry, carried out intensive traffic campaigns in various governorates from June 15-21. These campaigns resulted in the issuance of 16,721 traffic violation citations, impoundment of 354 vehicles, and detention of 42 individuals. This is in line with the efforts of the department to guarantee traffic safety and apprehend violators. The weekly statistics revealed that the violations included speeding, illegal parking, and failure to adhere to designated lanes, in addition to violations related to vehicle road-worthiness. Five motorcycles were impounded. Furthermore, seven juveniles were referred to the relevant authorities, as part of the legal measures taken against violators. The statistics also indicated that the Operations Unit received 2,339 reports within the abovementioned week, while the field teams dealt with 1,040 traffic accidents, including 175 that resulted in injuries.
Moreover, 32 wanted individuals, 25 Residency Law violators and one person without a valid identification document were referred to the concerned authorities. Four individuals were found to be under the influence of drugs and one who had suspected narcotics were referred to the Drug Control General Department (DCGD). Meanwhile, the Emergency Police General Department conducted intensive field campaigns from June 14-20. These campaigns resulted in the issuance of 746 traffic violation citations, arrest of 15 wanted individuals, 771 instances of humanitarian assistance provision, arrest of six individuals who violated the Residency Law, seizure of 10 wanted vehicles, and arrest of three individuals without valid identification. Eight suspects were referred to the DCGD, along with one individual found to be under the influence of drugs. Five vehicles were impounded for various traffic violations, while the authorities responded to 126 traffic accident reports and carried out 1,402 security operations. The department affirmed its commitment to continue its campaigns and field efforts 24/7 to ensure the safety and security of citizens and residents, as well as to instill traffic discipline
